BACKGROUND

Eduarts® was founded in 2000 by Dr Vicki Ooi who retired from teaching English and Literature at the University of Hong Kong after 30 years as a Senior Lecturer. She has found her second vocation and passion for teaching young students with and through the theatre arts. Vicki is also a well-known theatre director in Hong Kong. In the 70s, she was one of the first directors to produce western plays in translation. She is also the Founder of Shakespeare4All, a charity organization established in 2003 that works with primary school students in English through the adaptation of Shakespearean plays.

The name “Eduarts” reflects the two main concerns of our thinking, education and the arts or, arts-in-education. All our programmes are arts-based to cultivate children's intellectual interest and depth in the arts. In addition, we cultivate creative and critical thinking by maximizing the potential of different intelligences and abilities in students.

Through our arts-in-education philosophy, we complement skills-based learning with teaching for deeper understanding.
